Hacker George Hotz must allow Sony to look through his hard drive for information “that relates to the hacking of the PlayStation,” according to a federal judge’s ruling on Thursday. This is the latest development in Sony’s ongoing legal battle against George Hotz.

A previous ruling from U.S. District Judge Susan Ilston had prevented Sony from issuing subpoenas to companies like Google and Twitter to ascertain the identities of the members of the fail0verflow team, who aided Hotz in jailbreaking the PS3.


Hotz’ attorney Stewart Kellar objected to the ruling and, after a bit of legal jockeying tied to concerns about Hotz’ privacy, Sony will be “entitled to isolate … the information on the computer that relates to the hacking of the PlayStation.” Kellar and Hotz will also be present for the procedure, as the judge ordered Sony and Kellar to find a convenient time and place to allow for Sony to sift through the computer.
