Square Enix Goes Good And Old

Square Enix Goes Good And Old

None

After a brief countdown and a slew of teasers about its “new heroes,” GoG.com has announced that Square Enix will be the next publisher to add games to its ever-growing library of DRM-free classic titles. The first two, however, are not Square Enix originals at all, but properties the publisher acquired through its purchasing of Eidos.

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition is now available on GoG.com for $9.99, while assassination simulation Hitman: Codename 47 is right up alongside it at the more budget-conscious price of $5.99. GoG assures us that more games will show in the coming weeks, and I have a feeling we can expect a slew of Tomb Raider titles.

What I really want to know, though, is whether we’ll get some of the oft-forgotten Square Enix RPG ports. There were PC versions of both Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, which it would be kind of neat to play on modern hardware, without the slew of compatibility issues that originally made them such a chore to even run.
