Square Enix Revives True Crime

Square Enix Revives True Crime

None

Who would have thought that publisher Square-Enix would become known for resurrecting dead, dying, or forgotten franchises? At E3 this year they showcased Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Hitman: Absolution, and Tomb Raider, which was regarded as one of the best games at the show. Now, Square-Enix has gone dumpster diving behind the Activision building and has come back with a perfectly good True Crime reboot. Now why would someone throw that out?

Gamasutra reports that the True Crime: Hong Kong project that was previously abandoned by Activision has been picked up by Square-Enix for publishing. The game is still in development at United Front Games, and will be managed by Square-Enix London Studios, which is essentially the remnants of Eidos.

Unfortunately, Square-Enix didn’t acquire the True Crime name, and so the game will have to have a new title. Square-Enix London general manager Lee Singleton said the game is “a fantastic opportunity to create a new and unique franchise which gamers will come to know and love for years to come.”
