Square Unveils New Trailer for Rise of Mana

Square Unveils New Trailer for Rise of Mana

Secret of Mana is widely regarded as one of the best RPGs of the SNES era. Unfortunately, the game has sort of fallen out of the spotlight since then. It has received numerous sequels on numerous platforms, mostly handhelds, but it has never quite regained the greatness that it once had. Now, Square is trying to revive the franchise again, this time with a Free-To-Play game Rise of Mana .

According to the trailer, Rise of Mana will be an action RPG, much like the original. Players will be able to control a party of multiple characters at once as they travel through a cartoonish fantasy world. Characters will use different weapons and armor and will have different fighting styles. Not only that, but different characters will also gain separate bonuses when talking to NPCs. Of course, if you don’t want to deal with these human characters, you can always just capture some monsters and have them do your fighting.

It looks like an interesting game, but it also looks more like a throwaway free to play MMO than a serious Secret of Mana title. What do you think? Is this where the Mana series should go?
