SSX Will Feature A New Type Of Online Pass

None

Online Passes, which restrict the online features of used games, are nothing new in today’s video game market. However, the upcoming SSX title is looking to approach these passes in a different way. Instead of using a traditional model that simply disables online features until players enter a code, SSX actually allows you to play online but doesn’t allow you to earn in-game credits from it.

EA told Game Informer a little about how the pass will work:

In SSX, players without an Online Pass are able to compete and play in both of SSX’s online game modes, Explore and Global Events with no restrictions. In Global Events, the top finishers from each event are awarded with in-game credits. These in-game credits earned during play will not be awarded to the player if they do not have an Online Pass; these credits will be stored so that at any time, if a player redeems an Online Pass code, all the credits that they had previously earned in Global Events will be immediately awarded to them.

As is fairly common for Online Passes, new copies will include the code, while purchasers of used copies can buy the code for $10.
