Star Wars Battlefront Coming to PlayStation VR

Star Wars Battlefront Coming to PlayStation VR

Just yesterday I reported on a Star Wars virtual reality experience coming to the HTC Vive called Trials on Tatooine. It isn’t really being pitched as a game, per se. It’s more like an extended demo where you deflect blaster-fire with a lightsaber. It doesn’t look like you’ll be doing much else, but it does look pretty cool. In reporting I mentioned that if this evolved into some kind of partnership between ILMxLab and Valve that we could see all of the big Star Wars VR games going to the Vive. Sony made it clear that this isn’t the case during yesterday’s PlayStation VR conference at GDC.

During the presentation we didn’t have any new game reveals, but Sony Computer Entertainment President and CEO Andrew House did mention a project we hadn’t heard about. Apparently some form of Star Wars Battlefront will be coming to the PS VR. “This will be a Star Wars Battlefront gaming experience like nothing else, where players can transport themselves to a galaxy far, far away.” It’s a pretty ambiguous statement, and we obviously can’t tell much about the game from that sentence alone. I did notice that he was careful to call it a gaming experience, and not a game. This makes me think it’ll be something similar to Trials on Tatooine ; a VR showcase or demo of sorts. Stay tuned for more updates.
