Super Smash Bros. Announcement Was Premature

Super Smash Bros. Announcement Was Premature

None

One of the most exciting announcements that came out of Nintendo’s press conference this year was the revelation that new Super Smash Bros. games were coming to both the 3DS and the brand new Wii U platform. The crowd was extremely excited to hear about one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises coming to two new platforms, and I’m pretty sure Nintendo fans everywhere had themselves a little squeal of excitement when this news came out.

However, Project Sora head Masahiro Sakurai would like you to stop being excited. Right now. In a column he wrote for Famitsu, he said “We’ve got no plans whatsoever” regarding the series, and, “We’ve got two new games out in the open when there’s no extra time to work with them at all. It makes me cringe, and I’m not sure it’s the smartest thing to make gamers wait for several years, but the early announcement was made chiefly in order to attract new team members.”

In case you were wondering, Project Sora is still hard at work on the new Kid Icarus game for the 3DS, and will not be able to even start work on any new projects until that game ships this fall. So maybe we can count on a 2014 release for more Smash Bros.?
