Super Smash Bros. Unofficially Gets Waluigi

Super Smash Bros. Unofficially Gets Waluigi

None

The Brawl modding community has been around for a while. They began by simply altering costumes, tweaking stages, and letting you play Red Hot Chili Peppers in the background of the Final Destination stage. However, an expanding knowledge of the game and the Wii hacking tools available have allowed the community to do much more than that. There are currently no fewer than five full alternate versions of Brawl, changing everything from move properties to fundamental game mechanics. Now, hackers have finally reached the Holy Grail of game modding: adding more characters!

Yes, the hacking community has now made Waluigi, the more awkward Wario brother, fully playable. The hacking process started by overlaying his assist trophy model with another character’s move set, and from there it was a matter of tweaking each individual move until he felt just right. Though Waluigi looks a little rough around the edges, he’s actually a complete character with his own physics, move set, and final smash. He even has new portraits in the character select screen, and Kirby can successfully copy his new neutral B, which appears to be a bad breath attack of some sort.

Unfortunately, downloading Waluigi will force you to replace one of your existing characters, but modders are still hard at work trying to find ways to actually expand the roster rather than replacing characters on it. That being said, if there is a character in Super Smash Brothers Brawl you don’t particularly like, consider giving them the boot for Waluigi. You can do it without hacking or making any modifications to your Wii. In fact, the entire modification can run off of an SD card.
