Tenchu: Stealth Assassins Cheats & Cheat Codes for PlayStation

The debut of the Tenchu series, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins released in 1998. Developed by Acquire, the game is one of the games that defined the library of the Sony Playstation. Following Rikimaru and Ayame of the Azuma ninja clan as they complete missions for their employer Lord Gohda in Sengoku-era Japan, the gameplay involves the player guiding their chosen character through missions, the aim being to remain undetected while either avoiding or quietly killing enemies. The title was very successful both in Japan and in the West and sits at an 87 on Metacritic.

The Premise Of Tenchu: Stealth Assassins

The game is a stealth game where players can take on the role of Rikimaru or Ayame. There are eleven levels for you to get lost in. The character you choose affects how you interact with the game. Rikimaru has more health but is slower and wields only one blade. Ayame is weaker but uses two blades and has a higher movement speed. Each mission starts with a skippable briefing, then players can equip a limited number of items at an equipment screen.

The Main Characters Of Tenchu: Stealth Assassins

• Ayame – Ayame of the Azuma Ninja Clan has appeared, along with co-protagonist Rikimaru, in every Tenchu title but one.
• Rikimaru – Rikimaru is a Ninja from the Azuma clan that serves Lord Gohda. He is the main character of the Tenchu franchise.
• Lord Gohda – The Azuma ninja lives only to serve Lord Gohda in the Tenchu series.
• Mei-Oh – Mei-Oh is the king of Hell. He is Onikage’s master and final boss of the original Tenchu game.
• Naotada Sekiya – Trusted advisor to the Gohda clan, he is Lord Gohda’s right-hand man.
• Onikage – Rikimaru’s nemesis from the Tenchu series.
• Princess Kiku – Kiku is the daughter of Lord Gohda in the Tenchu series.
• Semimaru – Ninja Dog.

Debug Mode Cheats

To enter Debug Mode – Hold L1 and R2, and press UP, TRIANGLE, DOWN, X, LEFT, SQUARE, RIGHT, CIRCLE.

Bear Mode

• Pick a level with a Bear in it like the 3rd level.
• Then put it in debug mode.
• Put a bear in the level (Layout Enemy, Add, Kuma, Pad1).
• Then use Go in the Layout Enemy option.
• Run far enough for the bear to appear again.
• Then pick the bear’s camera (Layout Enemy, Select Camera Owner, and pick the last camera, it should be his.)
• Then when you have his camera, charge Item and pick the Enemy Clothes – it should be on the last page.
• Use it and your ninja should be running around on all fours.
• This trick works with other enemies too.

Play As Anyone

• First, enter the debug code, access the debug screen, hit “charge item”, then “kawarimi”, then hit FULL. (This item is the “resurrection leaf”. Ayame or Rikymaru will have this item so that if they are attacked by enemies they won’t kill them and the game will not end if they are killed.)
• You will be able to play as Onikage in the levels where he appears: 3, 6, 9, and 10.
• Enter the debug screen again, choose “layout enemy”, then “add”, then choose “NINJA”, then “pad 1”.
• Then go to the debug screen again, “layout enemy”, then “go”.
• Walk in any direction far enough to let the normal play screen make Onikage appear.
• Now enter the debug screen again, hit “layout enemy”, then “select camera owner”, then hit the last number that appears on the second page of the “camera owner screen” (except on level 10 which is number 23, because Onikage is not the final boss of this level).
• Now you will be able to play as Onikage and see him as if you were playing with Rikymaru or Ayame. You can also add any item to Onikage, except the “grappling hook”, but you can use the item “the world” instead, which will move Onikage to the spot you are aiming at.
• This code can also be used for Lord Meioh (number 24 on level 10 only) or any other enemy that you know the “camera owner” number.
• You must get the number of the enemy that you want to use just right or the camera will go to another place on the level and you will have to make the enemy that you were using appear again.

Two Player Mode

• First, do the debug mode.
• Then choose an enemy option.
• Choose any enemy (a level 2 ninja would be the best).
• Then choose Pad-2.
• Then run away from P2.
• When you see a question mark (near your life bar), run back to P2.
• Now Player 2 can move the enemy you have selected for them.
• Try level 4 (the checkpoint) at the bridge so you and P2 can fight and knock each other off.
• Note: If you (Player 1) leave Player 2 they will disappear. If P2 falls into deep water they will drown.

Japanese Cheat Codes

The following codes are unique to the Japanese version of the title.

Reclaim The Castle Shortcut

In the ninth level, Reclaim the Castle, there is a big shorcut which is not supposed to be in the game. Climb to the first roof of the castle and go on the very edge. Make sure you don’t fall off. Pull out your grappling hook and aim it straight up and shoot it. If you were close enough to the edge when you did this, your character will grab on just below the spikes. Pull yourself up and pull yourself up again. Walk forward to begin the boss battle. This glitch lets you skip the 20 or so enemies that you normally would have to fight.
