The Most Popular Downloads on The Sims Resource

PC gamers love The Sims. What they love even more is modding The Sims on PC. It’s a huge community online, with many gamers even making a living by making mods for the series. Online, The Sims Resource is one of the biggest fan sites hosting CC (Custom Content) for The Sims, with some files even managing to achieve millions of downloads.

At first glance, it can be a daunting prospect. That’s why we’ve put together this list of the most popular downloads on The Sims Resource, to make it easy for you to quickly find the best mods for The Sims 4.

Release Date: July 16, 2016

Nature in Curtain is a relatively small mod for The Sims 4. It adds a new style of curtain, a material mesh that rolls down vertically from the top of the curtain. Compared to the base game curtains, which are relatively plain, the Nature in Curtain additions just freshen things up a little with three new colors to choose from.

They’re extremely high quality and realistic, meaning they’re more likely to fit in with an Alpha CC mod collection as opposed to Maxis Match assets.

You can find Nature in Curtain here on The Sims Resource.

Release Date: April 2, 2021

Mouth Corners N1 is a piece of CC for those who really like to hone in on the details during Create-A-Sim. It focuses on enhancing the shadows around your Sim’s mouths, giving them the illusion of depth without actually changing the shape.

It’s available for both male to female Sims of all ages, with four colours to choose from. It even retains compatibility with other mods that change the textures on Sim faces. If you’re a Simmer that’s in too deep with Create-A-Sim, Mouth Corners N1 is a must-have.

You can download Mouth Corners N1 from The Sims Resource here.

Release Date: December 25, 2016

The Ominous Hair CC for The Sims 4 comes from mod author toksik, and adds just a single hairstyle to the game. The style, which adds a messy bun alongside curled sides, comes in 21 colors and can be used to spice up your Sims.

It’s compatible with other hair accessories, too, so there are further ways to accessorize the Ominous Hair CC.

You can find the Ominous Hair CC on The Sims Resource here.

7. Naturalis Office Plants Duo (1.53m Downloads)

Release Date: October 25, 2020

Naturalis Office Plants Duo is a fun bit of CC you can use to bring a little life to any home or building. It adds two plants, which when placed in The Sims 4 act as a single item. The plants complement each other nicely, and with five colors to choose from, you can adapt them to fit almost any environment.

While Naturalis Office Plants Duo does in fact belong to the wider Naturalis Plants II, it’s the individual set that has gone on to garner over 1.5m downloads since its release three years ago.

6. Jealousy Hair (1.64m Downloads)

Release Date: October 1, 2016

In terms of content, Jealousy Hair lines up pretty much exactly like the previously-mentioned Ominous Hair. It adds one hairstyle to The Sims 4, but this time there are just 18 colors for you to use. Jealousy Hair is a high ponytail hairstyle, and it’s unlike anything you’ll find in The Sims 4 base game.

There are plenty of other pieces of CC online that give you similar hairstyles, but being released in 2016, Jealousy Hair has had the time to establish itself as many players’ go-to.

Jealous Hair is found on The Sims Resource here.

5. DIY Nose Piercing Set (1.76m Downloads)

Release Date: June 23, 2016

If you’re looking to accessorize your Sims, then DIY Nose Piercing Set is CC you need to have installed. It adds four different nose piercings for both the left and right nostrils, as well as three septum piercings. Each of these options comes in five colors, with different metal types available. DIY Nose Piercing Set just adds a little splash of personality to your Sims.

You can use them on both male and female Sims here, making it an extremely versatile piece of CC. Other piercings and jewelry can also be used at the same time as these, so if they aren’t enough by themselves, you can continue to layer on even more!

If you want to download DIY Nose Piercing Set for your game, you can find it on The Sims Resource here.

4. TS4 3D Eyelashes I F V1 Bassis (2.16m Downloads)

Release Date: January 30, 2021

TS4 3D Eyelashes I F V1 Bassis is another piece of CC for Create-A-Sim enthusiasts. As opposed to the low-quality eyelashes found in the base game of The Sims 4, this CC makes them 3D objects in staggering detail. Exclusively available for female Sims, these eyelashes come in nine different styles, with three different sizes for each – short, mid-length, and long. They’re amazingly realistic, and perfect for any Alpha CC users.

Best of all, TS4 3D Eyelashes I F V1 Bassis is compatible with all eye styles, so you don’t have to worry about any visual bugs here. The only drawback is that by making the eyelashes 3D, it’s less performance-friendly than the base game. However, for most players this is unlikely to be a huge problem unless you have a ton of Sims on screen at any given moment.

You can download TS4 3D Eyelashes I F V1 Bassis on The Sims Resource here.

3. Mouth Corners N03 (2.55m Downloads)

Release Date: February 20, 2016

In terms of subtlety, Mouth Corners N03 is arguably the least noticeable CC on this list. It adds five different mouth corners to The Sims 4, reshaping them in extremely small ways. Because of how small the changes are, you could use this mod in either Alpha or Maxis Match CC lists.

This is one of those pieces of CC that you might as well download. After all, it’s all the smaller mods coming together that really change your Sims 4 experience!

You can download Mouth Corners N03 from The Sims Resource here.

Release Date: September 27, 2015

Skintone Set V2 was a great addition to The Sims 4, adding 14 new skin tones to the game. Each one was specifically designed to be more realistic than the base game offerings, even if some feel this mod doesn’t quite go far enough.

These skin tones can be used with all genders and ages, so are a solid addition for anyone jumping into the game for the first time, working with all skin overlays and makeup options.

While you can find Skintone Set V2 on The Sims Resource here, we’d recommend you read the next entry in this list first…

Release Date: July 16, 2016

For years, the lack of diverse skin tones in The Sims 4 base game was a hot topic of discussion among the community. Maxis received plenty of criticism, with many feeling they couldn’t properly represent themselves in a life simulator. While this was eventually rectified in a December 2020 update, Ms Blue’s Skintone Set V3 was previously seen as the perfect stopgap solution for gamers wanting a more diverse set of skin tones.

It adds 34 new skin tones to The Sims 4, each of which could be combined with base game skin overlays, as well as any makeup. There’s a reason it stands as by far the most downloaded CC on The Sims Resource.

You can grab Skintone Set V3 from The Sims Resource here, although the 2020 skin tone update for the game mostly made it redundant.
