The Sounds of Road Not Taken

The Sounds of Road Not Taken

As the development process rolls on for Road Not Taken , it’s amazing to see how the smallest milestones can completely energize a team!

Daniel Simmons, Audio Producer for the project, recently posted an updated to the PlayStation.Blog that showcases the excitement of achieving their first round of audio recordings for the game. “We recently added the first batch of sounds to Road Not Taken , and the team got really excited, like the game was finally coming together! It’s funny because it was such a small thing in relation to the huge amount of work that has already gone into the game, but it really highlights the difference sound can make in the way we experience things.” Says Simmons.

Although, it would be easy to just pull the sounds for the game from a pre-made catalogue or synthetic source (as digital is so prevalent these days), but Simmons says that looking to the people in his everyday surroundings is one of the best (and natural) sources. His kids for example played a role, stating, “I’ve also been recording my kids as much as possible in order to get the iconic sounds we need for the children…” as well as the musical talents of the community around him. “I’m very lucky to be a part of a vibrant community of musicians that play traditional instruments, so I brought my friend Dan Restivo to come play his rare hand-made wooden flute that you hear in the teaser. My bandmate, Kristin Cavoukian, adds to the vibe with her voice.” He said.

Road Not Taken is an indie puzzle game, due on for the PS4 in first quarter of 2014.
