THQ Closing Arizona Facility

THQ Closing Arizona Facility

None

THQ hasn’t had the best of times lately. Recently, the studio announced plans to close its Phoenix, Arizona QA facility. They will be consolidating their two offices and moving a good portion of their Phoenix team up to their Montreal location. Unfortunately, not every employee will be along for the ride, which means this change will include several layoffs. As of the time of this writing, THQ has not released numbers detailing how many employees will be moved and how many will be laid off.

The new transition will take place over the latter half of 2012. THQ has said that this was brought on my “industry, market, and economic trends,” which is a short way of saying they aren’t making enough money. This economy is rough on everyone, and THQ’s president, Jason Rubin, said that this move is important to the future of the company. Still, THQ seems like it’s holding on by a thread, and while these Canadian tax breaks will probably help it out, who knows how much longer it will stay afloat?
