Rob Gilbert Leaves Double Fine

Rob Gilbert Leaves Double Fine

Ron Gilbert, creator of Monkey Island and The Cave, has left Tim Schafer’s side at Double Fine studio. The split is amicable and Gilbert plans to stay in the gaming industry and work on projects for other studios. “It’s time for me to move on from Double Fine and plot my next move,” Gilbert said. “So many games left to be designed.”

According to Eurogamer, Gilbert had teamed up with DeathSpank co-creator Clayton Kauziaric on the development for a new iOS title. The game is called Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG.

Gilbert had nothing but good things to say about the Double Fine employees that he will be leaving behind. “I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave,” he said. “It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years. So much fun. I will miss them all. And of course to Tim for creating the opportunity to come there and make The Cave.”
