SEGA and Double Fine Officially Announce The Cave

None

Remember that teaser art from SEGA that seemed to fit perfectly with teaser art from an upcoming Double Fine game led by Ron Gilbert ? Well, it turns out that it’s completely legit.

SEGA and Double Fine have announced their new 2D adventure game called The Cave. The game asks the player to select a trio of adventurers from an unlikely band of heroes that includes a Knight, a Scientist, a Monk, a Time Traveler, a Hillbilly, what appears to be a Mermaid, and more.

Each character has his or her own abilities and skills. The Knight, for example, can protect himself from environmental hazards by employing a guardian angel, while the Time Traveler seems to be able to shift his entire environment to the past or future in order to change its layout. While the game can be completed with any combination of characters, certain stages can only be unlocked using specific trios, and with them come certain endings.

It’s almost like the Lost Vikings for a brand new generation. Hopefully we will get to see a playable build at this year’s E3.
