Ouya Courting The Blue Blur

Ouya Courting The Blue Blur

Ouya, after an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign, has been repeatedly pushed back to fine-tune certain elements of its interface and design. The added benefit of this is that more details have surfaced in the way of software for the $99 Android box. Today’s addition? Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sega is bringing a trio of its side-scrolling entries to the Ouya, optimized for the console’s Tegra 3 chip: Sonic CD, Sonic 4 Episode I, and Sonic 4 Episode II. The lot of them will also take advantage of the Ouya’s “free-to-try” business model, a bit like the shareware of days gone by. Without paying, players may download and play the first level of Sonic CD and Sonic 4 Episode I, while Sonic 4 Episode II offers its first two levels to the tight-of-wallet.

Those who wish to purchase the full versions can expect to pay $6.99, almost double the cost of the Sonic 4 Episode I in the Google Play store, more than twice what Sonic CD costs, and over three times the price of Sonic 4 Episode I in the App store. The games will all be available on June 27, two days after the Ouya’s launch.
