Final Fantasy III Comes To OUYA

Final Fantasy III Comes To OUYA

None

Americans haven’t had much of a chance to play Final Fantasy III. Other than the DS remake which came out a couple years ago and the games recent ports to iOS and Android, the game has been released in Japanese territories only. Well, now the classic JRPG is finally coming to a non-handheld console, and it’s probably not the console you’re thinking of. Final Fantasy III will, in fact, be a launch title for the OUYA.

According to an email sent to OUYA’s Kickstarter backers, the game will be updated to make use of the OUYA’s high-definition graphics. A free demo will be available on the OUYA market for gamers who aren’t sure they want to take the Final Fantasy plunge.

Unfortunately, many details about this Final Fantasy III re-release are still unknown. Will we see new game content or extras or are we just getting the game as it originally appeared on the NES? FFIII was already release on iOS and Android, so one would have to wonder if we aren’t just getting a port of the existing mobile version. We know that FFIII will be a launch title for the OUYA but we have no idea how much it will cost or how it will be controlled.

Getting Final Fantasy on board for the OUYA’s launch is certainly impressive, but without more details we can’t tell whether or not this will be the killer app that sells the OUYA to the world.
