The news will always be on hand, on your handheld. Time Warner has announced it will be creating a new news network available exclusively for handheld gaming systems and portable communication devices. Time Warner claims it will be like an interactive daily newspaper that’s delivered to your system each morning.

Time Warner Online News, affectionately referred to as TWON, will feature the latest in breaking news, world and local news, sports, financial reports, entertainment, and weather. All the stories will include interactive segments such as mini-games, polls, questionnaires, and puzzles. You can even expect the Saturday comics to come alive with animation and voiceovers.

“What sets us apart from a regular old newspaper is everything,” laughs marketing VP Conrad B. Fife. “TWON will educate, entertain, and stimulate the senses. There will be news anchors reading the news for people too occupied, or lazy, to read. In addition there will be music, videos, cartoons, and those crazy puzzles and mini-games. If there’s a story about a murder, we want you to live that event through a game. When you have to defend yourself against four drug-crazed assailants with only a wooden spoon, that’s one story you won’t forget.”

TWON is poised to become the biggest global news network ever. To ensure local content, TWON will have news departments in all cities throughout the world. That translates to a lot of content. Subscribers can customize the information they receive to make it personally relevant. You can choose the main headlines, entertainment in the world of rock, and reports on NASCAR and football. At any moment you can access the entire network, but the filter system lets you instantly receive only the information that interests you.

With such a large subscription base expected and no printing costs, you’ll be able to receive your daily news from TWON for less than ten cents a day.

Standard games like crosswords and Sudoku will be offered, in addition to unique puzzle games that correspond to current news events. Mini-games include musical rhythm games, shooters, financial sims, horror survival, and various sports including racing, hockey, poker, fishing, drinking, and bowling.

TWON is paperless, therefore environmentally efficient and hoarder-friendly. It’s guaranteed not to yellow, and will never be found at the bottom of a birdcage.
