Game Critics’ Best of E3 awards was dominated by a single game: Titanfall. The game was nominated for six categories, the current record for the most nominations ever received. Then again, Watch Dogs and Destiny were also both nominated for five games each. Perhaps these games are proof that the net generation brings a new degree of excellence in game design. Or perhaps E3 2013’s showings were so sparse that games had to be nominated multiple times.
While most people say the PS4 beat the Xbox One at E3 2013, the Xbox One had more nominees than the PS4, barely beating it out 34-33. That being said, the PS4 itself was nominated for best in show, an honor that the Xbox One did not have. However, the Xbox One and the PS4 are duking it out for the Best Hardware award. Likely it will be Sony winning that one.
Titanfall and the PS4 are getting an incredible amount of E3 hype. Still, it’s a bit strange that a game with no playable demo and a system with only one or two playable games could be said to be the best of E3. Guess our industry really is more about hype than substance.
