The House of the Dead: Remake Cheats & Cheat Codes for Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Windows, and More

The House of the Dead: Remake is a remake of a 1996-1997 classic arcade rail shooter of the same name. On April 7, 2022, the remake was released for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. MegaPixel Studios, the developer of The House of the Dead: Remake, sought to modernize the magic of the classic arcade game to help uplift it to be what gamers expect of modern gaming. Forever Entertainment, the game’s publisher, pitched the concept of this arcade remake in 2019. Sega, the original creators and owners of the game, decided to license the game but otherwise wasn’t too heavily involved in the remake’s creation.

The game debuted to mixed reviews. Major complaints revolved around the clunky mechanics and short length of the game. The remake attempted to modernize gameplay from nearly 30 years ago, and it didn’t necessarily work. Some felt that the game didn’t live up to the original. Despite the mixed opinions, The House of the Dead: Remake is Forever Entertainment’s best-selling game. Since the first remake was such a success, a remake of The House of the Dead 2 is currently in the works.

The House of the Dead: Remake Premise

As the name suggests, The House of the Dead: Remake is a horror-themed rail shooter with a plotline that sounds remarkably similar to Resident Evil. The House of the Dead: Remake is set in December 1998 and follows AMS agents, Thomas Rogan and G, as they fight for survival. To be more precise, the agents find themselves locked in an endless battle with genetic experiments created by Dr. Curien. Dr. Curien is obsessed with gaining control over life and death and his obsession leads to insanity.

On December 18, 1998, Dr. Curien unleashed his experimental monsters and sent them after his staff. As the creatures kill researchers, they manage to escape from the hidden underground research facility and overrun Curien’s mansion. Thomas and G are called to the scene to investigate. If any of this sounds familiar, it’s likely due to how it mimics the Spencer Mansion infestation and the S.T.A.R.S. unit investigation that happened in the original Resident Evil. Needless to say, these two games have very different gameplay styles. Resident Evil is a survival horror game created for console. The House of the Dead was originally an arcade rail shooter. Even with their opposing gameplay styles, it’s hard to ignore the similarities in their plots.

Since The House of the Dead: Remake is a remake of an old arcade game, the game itself is pretty simplistic. The game consists of a straightforward plot and a handful of characters, but not much else beyond the gameplay itself. Despite the game’s simplicity, there are several main characters worth noting.

  • Thomas Rogan: Thomas Rogan is a recurring protagonist in The House of the Dead game franchise. In the original game, Thomas is an AMS agent and his codename is “Eager Eagle.” Thomas is married to Sophie Richards, a researcher who works for Dr. Curien. Sophie is the reason he gets involved with the events of the game. When Dr. Curien unleashes his genetically engineered monsters on his own staff, Sophie manages to get in contact with her husband, who comes to save her and investigate. AMS eventually disbands in 2003 when the world ends, but Thomas continues to fight with a group of survivors. Thomas and Sophie eventually have a daughter together named Lisa.
  • G: G is another recurring protagonist in the game series. G’s real name is unknown and he only ever goes by “G”. Like Thomas, G once worked as an AMS agent and his codename was “Silver Fang”. He’s the second agent who goes to investigate the Curien Mansion incident. When the world ends and AMS falls apart, G “retires”, but he always knew that what happened at the Curien Mansion was at the center of everything.
  • Sophie Richards: Sophie Richards is Thomas’ wife and she’s also a DBR Corporation researcher. Dr. Curien is the researcher who oversees The DNA Bio Reactor Corporation (DBR). Sophie’s main goal at DBR was to work on the BioReactor project, a top-secret assignment that Dr. Curien took great interest in. When Dr. Curien unleashes his genetic experiments on the researchers, Sophie manages to get in contact with her husband, Thomas. Thomas comes to investigate soon after.
  • Dr. Curien: Dr. Curien is a genetic engineer and in The House of the Dead, he’s also the research director of the DBR Corporation. Dr. Curien serves as the main antagonist of the original game as well as The House of the Dead: Remake. He’s also resurrected in The House of the Dead III to fill the role of the final boss. In the first game, Dr. Curien finally snaps after years of research and releases his genetically engineered weapons to go after his staff. Originally, Curien wanted to cure Daniel, his terminally ill son. His research only ever produced the monsters he inevitably unleashed onto the world. Having lost all connection to his reason to live, Curien decides to eradicate humanity in his insanity.
