Ubisoft Stops the Uplay Passport, Assassin’s Creed IV Online Pass Free

I don’t typically use words like “stunning,” but I’m going to. Ubisoft announced today that they would be doing away with the online pass for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag in order to further accessibility to the title’s online features and its companion app.

Then they went on further to say that Ubisoft will altogether stop charging for online passes in future titles.
The governing belief behind their new system seems to be that games today are blurring the line between single-player and multiplayer, so why put up a pay wall between the two? To do so would be fighting innovation.
Players on the Xbox 360 and PS3 can start downloading the pass for free. Players who have already purchased the pass are encouraged to contact Ubisoft Support. This should help put a balm on the wounds created by the recent news that the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag online pass is required for some single-player content.
