UK Teenager Jailed for PSN and Xbox Live Hacks

A teenager from the UK has received a jail sentence of two years following his arrest for developing and selling a program used for a whole mess of DDoS attacks. Adam Mudd’s Titanium Stresser program, which makes DDoS attacks nice and easy, has been used to attack services like Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Micecraft, and TeamSpeak over 1.7 million times. He reportedly made over £386,000 selling the software to cybercriminals.

Mudd was charged for one count of committing unauthorized acts with intent to impair the operation of computers, one count of making, supplying or offering to supply an article for use in an offense contrary to the Computer Misuse Act, and one count of concealing criminal property. He pleaded guilty. The judge stated that he was, “entirely satisfied that [Mudd] knew full well and understood completely this was not a game for fun. It was a serious money-making business and [his] software was doing exactly what [he] created it to do.

Mudd himself reportedly carried out 594 DDoS attacks against 181 IP addresses from December 2013 to March 2015. He targeted the browser-based online game RuneScape with over 25,000 attacks. RuneScape ’s publisher claimed to have spent well over £6,000,000 to defend against the attacks.
