[UPDATE] Fraud Plagues Rare Factory Sealed NES Auction

Last week I reported on the factory sealed NES copy of Stadium Events currently listed on eBay , and how its bid approaching $100,000 was likely all just a ruse. It now looks like this journalist hit the nail right on the head.

With the bid forcibly retracted, the auction has been restarted and is only open to pre-approved buyers of the site moving forward. The current price stands at only a fraction of the original, which is just over $32 grand as of this writing.

In a recent interview, user menaceone had the opportunity to answer a few burning questions. Chief among them was exactly how he managed to score a factory sealed copy of a game released in 1987! “I worked for Nintendo for 22 years…I did not realize the value until 2011, when a story came out about this game being sold on eBay for $44,000. I told my wife, ‘I know I have that game.’ I collect a lot of different items, so after looking through several boxes I found it! Since I was still working for Nintendo I could not sell this item for profit, which is a smart company policy. When I left in 2012, it was possible for me to sell this game.” He says.

If you want to own a piece of gaming history you’d better act fast. The auction only runs another several hours, so get your credit cards ready (you’re gonna’ need ‘um)!
