Warner Bros. Announces Guardians Of Middle-Earth

None

Are you a big fan of DOTA but frequently find yourself saying “this just isn’t geeky enough?” Boy does Warner Bros. have a treat in store for you!

In a recent press release Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed Guardians of Middle-Earth, a multiplayer online battle arena game set to release in the fall of 2012 for the Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE.

The game will feature classic five-on-five MOBA gameplay with iconic Lord of the Rings characters. Gandalf, Gollum, Thrain, and even Sauron will be available to control, for starters. In fact, WB has said that the game will feature over 20 LOTR characters to choose from. Of course, in this day and age there is always room for this to be expanded via DLC.

The game is set to release as a tie-in to the upcoming motion picture, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey . This means we’ll probably see heavy influence from The Hobbit in the game, with Bilbo and his companions most likely being playable characters.

Personally, I think the MOBA genre actually lends itself better to the Lord of the Rings trilogy though. The Battle of Helm’s Deep with DOTA-style mechanics? I’d be into that.
