Wii Sets a Sales Record

Wii Sets a Sales Record

None

While the demand for the Wii may no longer be as ridiculous as it was when it first came out, which saw many people standing in lines for hours when shipments were expected, the system continues to sell incredibly well. In fact, the system has managed to sell so well until this point that it has broken a sales record.

According to Gamasutra, the Wii has now sold over 30 million consoles in the U.S. since its launch in 2006, making it the fastest selling console ever in its first 45 months on the market. Nintendo of America sales and marketing VP Cammie Dunaway states “More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences. This milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others – all at a value-minded price.” Looking at a more global picture, the Wii has also managed to sell nearly 74 million consoles worldwide, according to Nintendo’s recent earnings report.
