Nintendo has announced that their next-gen console, the Wii U, will be region locked.
The announcement was expected with the firm implementing region locks for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii.
“What can be played on the Wii U is restricted by a region-lock feature; software not sold in the same region cannot be played,” says a Famitsu translation posted on Twitter.
With a base price of $299, the Wii U is currently scheduled for a U.S. release on November 18 th , while Europe follows shortly after on the 30 th .
Japan, meanwhile, will receive the a few weeks later on December 8 th .
