Women Play and Buy More Mobile Games Than Men

Yahoo subsidary Flurry recently studied the habits of men and women who play mobile games. What it found is that women are not only buying more mobile games than men, but they are also playing them for much longer.

Flurry looked at games that reached 1.1 million downloads on the company’s platform. According to the results, women downloaded the “successful games” 31% more than men, and they spend 35% more time with them. Women also spent more on in-app purchases than men, and games tend to retain 42% more women than men.

Flurry also looked at 19 different genres to see how they affected the results. Women were the primary consumer for 9 of the 19 genres including Endless/Runner, Brain/Quiz, Management/Simulation and more. Men only took 6 genres including Card/Battle, Sports and Tower/Defense and Action/RPG.

Flurry also noted that the results for a global audience vs U.S. audience did not provide signifcantly different results. In 2013, the ESA found that 45% of women play video games, and, according to Flurry’s results, outrank men on at least mobile platforms.
