WoW Bans Gay-Friendly Guild

WoW Bans Gay-Friendly Guild

None

Controversy has ensued after Blizzard has made the decision to not allow player Sara Andrews to start a “LGBT friendly” guild.

When Sara attempted to start the guild for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transvestite friendly players, Blizzard warned her that she must stop or be kicked out of the game for breaching game rules.

Blizzard has defended their decision by stating that they want to keep real-world divisions out of the game world to keep the peace. They believe that guilds like the one Andrews wanted to start would only create division. They have stated that “topics related to sensitive real-world subjects – such as religious, sexual, or political preferences, for example – have had a tendency to result in communication between players that often breaks down into harassment.”

Andrews states that she was not trying to create a “LGBT only” guild but rather a “LGBT friendly” guild where players could be free from insulting language like the use of the word ‘gay’ as a put-down.

Blizzard promises to reexamine their policy and reclarify rules and policies in order to avoid future disappointment
