Microsoft has been trying to standardize its Windows 8 operating system, regardless of public opinion. For some time, we’ve known that Xbox LIVE was eventually going to end up on Windows 8, but now it appears as if the opposite is true as well. Windows 8 may be coming to the new Xbox.
In an interview with IGN , ex-VP of Windows Sales, Joachim Kempin, revealed that he personally believes the next generation Xbox will use a Windows 8 interface, or at the very least something very reminiscent of the new operating system. In fact, he believes there’s even a possibility that a touch screen will be involved, and with the Wii U pushing their tablet controller and the PS4 already rumored to have touch screen capabilities, it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch.
Several rumors recently dropped about the Xbox 720. We have been told that Microsoft will develop two versions of the console, one standard console and one set-top box that does little more than play indie games and watch videos. However, the juiciest rumor says that the new Xbox will take advantage of an always on internet connection DRM. This, along with with Sony’s recent patent of RFID laden discs, could gut the used games market from the inside out.
