The Xbox One digital licensing model, the source of so much ire on the part of the gaming community, was canned by Microsoft in the weeks immediately following its E3 reveal. It was a move that effectively excised the used game DRM to which consumers had been so adamantly opposed.
Now, though, there are fans who want it back. This is because, with the removal of the policy, the Xbox One also lost its ability to play games disc free and, more importantly, the digital “family sharing” feature, which allowed “families” of up to ten people to share their gaming library instantly.
The petition, hosted at Change.org, is currently standing at approximately 2,000 supporters out of 2,500 desired. Even if it hits its goal, it’s still a fairly small petition. 2,500 people is a drop in the ocean when it comes to videogame consumers, but the fact that it’s drummed up support so quickly is an indication that there might be a more sizable demographic among consumers who see the Xbox One’s digital features as truly forward thinking.
