Xbox One Outsold PS4 in July

Xbox One Outsold PS4 in July

The most American console was the best-selling console during the most American month of the year. That’s right, freedom lovers! The Xbox One outsold PS4 during the month of July according to the NPD Group. This will no doubt be considered a great victory for Microsoft. Since launch, the PS4 has consistently outsold the Xbox One 2-to-1 on a monthly basis. So what turned things around?

The Xbox One S probably had something to do with this. Microsoft’s slimmer, upgraded Xbox One wasn’t made available until August 4, but its launch drove down the price of the original Xbox One, and many retailers have been offering some really generous deals and bundles accordingly. At this point you can easily find a 500GB Xbox One for $250 or less. “We’re honored that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in July,” remarked Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols, “and that total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours.” It’s a sweet victory, but time will tell whether or not it will be short-lived.
