Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Revealed

Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Revealed

None

I guess it was only a matter of time. The Yakuza series is a sort of quirky, very Japanese, open-world series of action games set among the seedy underbelly of the Japanese mob. The games are something of a cultural experience, too, with elements of that social cluster, and general Japanese society, on display as gameplay motifs. It hasn’t really caught on in the West, though the games have been released over here.

Now, the first two games in the series, which were originally exclusive to the PS2, are getting a PS3 HD re-release. The update doesn’t stop at the games’ graphics, though, extending onward to the loading times (shortened), the list of food one may eat (which will now include check-marks to show what has been consumed), and the ability to manage one’s item box from phone booths. Lots of little quality-of-life touches.

While the game has yet to be confirmed for the West, we do know that it will be out in Japan on November 1, about a month ahead of Yakuza 5.
