In the United States, even if a mass-produced product is selling relatively poorly, it’s still unlikely that the price will drop at retail until the manufacturer deems it so. Japan, it would appear, has no such qualms about adjusting the sticker-price to meet demand. After last week’s less-than-stellar Vita sales , during which the device dropped from a strong first week of over 325,000 units to around 72,000 and was dwarfed by the 3DS (at 482,000), Japanese retailers are cutting the price of the less popular 3G model of the handheld by as much as 20 percent.
