$300 Oculus Rift Looks Likely

$300 Oculus Rift Looks Likely

Virtual reality could end up becoming quite the big deal. Sony has its PlayStation VR headset. Oculus has its Rift. Microsoft’s tooling around with the Hololens technology. The virtual world is ahead of us. But the big question is, what’s the cost? If Oculus’ Nate Mitchell, Vice President of Product and co-founder, is right, it could be $300.

Mitchell spoke to PC Gamer and, when asked about the price of the Oculus Rift, had an answer on hand. “…We all know it’s going to be at least $300.” This falls in line with the $200-$400 estimate Mitchell gave Eurogamer in 2014. It also prices it in line with the PlayStation VR, which Sony has said will cost as much as a console.

The Oculus Rift will be released in the first quarter of 2016 and be followed by an official Oculus Touch controller in the second quarter of next year. It looks like you’ll be debating between it and a current generation system when the time comes.
