Activision Buys Candy Crush Maker King for $5.9 Billion

Activision Buys Candy Crush Maker King for $5.9 Billion

Activision Blizzard has made another huge deal. As if the company wasn’t busy enough, especially with an eSports division in the works, it has now purchased King Digital Entertainment, creator of the enormously popular (that’s almost an understatement) Candy Crush mobile games.

This is huge, and Activision is now a major player on all fronts: console, PC, and mobile. Activision chief executive Bobby Kotick said in a statement: “With a combined global network of more than half a billion monthly active users, our potential to reach audiences around the world on the device of their choosing enables us to deliver great games to even bigger audiences than ever before.” And Activision better start delivering soon; this is one of the biggest deals in the history of gaming. Consider, for example, Facebook buying Oculus VR: a deal that will surely change the industry and possibly the world. That deal was about one-third the cost of Activision buying free-to-play giant King. I wonder how long it will take before we get a Warcraft or Starcraft themed match-3.
