Activision Turning Games Into Movies?

Activision Turning Games Into Movies?

None

If there’s one thing that can be said about Activision Blizzard’s CEO Bobby Kotick, it’s that he is always looking for ways to get the company to earn more money. Whether that means putting out a never-ending flood of Guitar Hero titles or creating exorbitantly priced special editions for high profile titles, Kotick seems to know what sells. As such, his latest idea, which is further out of the realm of video games than expected, might just work.

According to Gamasutra, when speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Kotick posited turning in-game cinematics into direct to consumer films. Talking about the cinematics found in StarCraft II, Kotick states “If we were to take that hour, or hour and a half, take it out of the game, and we were to go to our audiences for whom we have their credit card information as well as a direct relationship and ask, ‘Would you like to have the StarCraft movie?’, my guess is that … you’d have the biggest opening weekend of any film ever.”
