Amazon Opens Indie Games Store

Amazon Opens Indie Games Store

The power of indie games is only growing, evidenced by the drubbing Microsoft has taken for their attitude toward the Indie Games Marketplace on Xbox Live and their apparent attitude toward such titles on the upcoming Xbox One. In light of that, online retail giant Amazon has opened a new Indie Games Store specifically for them.

Currently, the marketplace features over 200 titles, many of which are being discounted to celebrate the opening of the store. While quite a few have big name publishers, such as Sega or Warner Bros., or are already extremely well known, such as Supergiant Games’ Bastion, all of them have been put together by small teams not directly associated with a larger development studio or inexorably tied to a specific publishing body.

The store will also be offering an “Indie Spotlight,” which will consist of profiles of indie developers, constructed by the staff at Amazon. The first profiles Mike Roush and Alex Neuse, both of BIT.TRIP’s Gaijin Games.
