Bethesda Dismisses Prey 2 As “Not Good Enough”

Gaming purgatory has gotten slightly less crowded recently now that titles like Mirror’s Edge 2 and Final Fantasy XV (previously known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII ) have finally made their way out, but publisher Bethesda has now thrown a new game into limbo: Prey 2 . In a recent interview with IGN , Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines detailed that, after spending “years and millions of dollars and a ton of effort trying to help Human Head make a great Prey 2 game,” the game has been all but canned.

Previous reports stated that development had simply been restarted, with Arkane at the helm over Human Head. However, as Hines explained, Bethesda isn’t “going to just proceed blindly with something that isn’t good enough. We spent a lot of time and money and effort trying to make this thing happen and support folks, but at the same time, you just can’t keep throwing money at it and saying, ‘sure, it’ll eventually work.’”

The news of Prey 2 ’s veritable shutdown is sad indeed, but I’m almost too flabbergasted to get a grasp on it. With patch catastrophes like Fallout: New Vegas and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim nagging at my memory, I can’t help but think, “My god, how broken does a game have to be for Bethesda to pass on it?”
