BF3 Beta Drops Today, Nvidia Adds Support

BF3 Beta Drops Today, Nvidia Adds Support

None

The Battlefield 3 beta won’t be in full swing for a few more days, but super-fans who pre-ordered the FPS will get to take a crack at it today. Players who purchased the Medal of Honor Limited Edition will also be receiving a beta key, but the release timing for both is still a little unclear. “Please don’t ask about ‘when do I get my email’ etc,” blogged Gustav Halling, one of the developers behind Battlefield 3. “We don’t know. This is an automated system that sends a bunch out every hour starting around lunch today.”

Even though EA has been trumpeting a “lunchtime” release schedule, players reportedly started receiving their keys a few hours ago.

Nvidia also announced a bit of BF3 news today. It seems that their old graphics drivers weren’t entirely capable of handling the arduous workload that BF3 presents. So they’ve retooled the package and released a Battlefield-3-specific set of drivers. According to the developer, the new drivers (Release 285.38) should improve performance by up to 38 percent.

ATi is also promising a new set of drivers today, but hasn’t published any information about the performance boost players might expect.
