Borderlands 2 Vita Release Date was an Error

Borderlands 2 Vita Release Date was an Error

The release date of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 coming to Sony’s PlayStation Vita recently slipped through the net , thanks to a tweet posted on 2K Games official Twitter account.

The tweet now having been deleted, it turns out that the March 18 release date the previous tweet stated was an error, according to a subsequent tweet 2K later posted. Luckily, a NeoGAF user was able to save an image of the tweet. Which is a shame, because a lot of Borderlands 2 fans jumped for joy at the initial tweet. If the March 18 release date was actually correct, it would put the port up against other games slated to release in March, like Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall .

We apologise for a tweet about a release date for Borderlands 2 on Vita which was posted in error. The release date mentioned is incorrect.

According to CVG , Gearbox Software’s CEO Randy Pitchford expressed interest of porting Borderlands 2 to the Vita back in July 12, 2012 . Instead of having Gearbox develop it, however, the CEO said he’d like to outsource and encourage the Borderlands 2 assets to fans of the series, or indeed Sony itself, to development the project.

At last year’s Gamescom, Sony confirmed that Divekick developer Iron Galaxy would be taking on the job of bringing Borderlands 2 to the PlayStation Vita.

“You spoke, we listened, and with the wonderful collaboration between 2K, Sony and the team at Iron Galaxy Studios we can finally make Borderlands 2 on PS Vita a reality,” CVG recorded Adam Fletcher saying at the time.

“The Vita gives Borderlands 2 fans the ability to play the game anywhere they want, complete with of all the unique benefits of the Vita, and will truly bring the four-player cooperative experience to the palms of your hands. A new era of portable shoot-and-loot awaits!”
