Bungie Hands Over Halo Next Month

None

We’ve known for some time now that Reach would be Bungie’s final Halo game. Back in April, they signed a 10-year publishing deal with Activision. Since then, Microsoft has brought in a new team, Halo Waypoint developer 343 Industries, to continue work on Halo: Reach. Now it’s official: Bungie will be handing over the reigns on August 2nd, giving Microsoft complete control of the series from now on as they begin work on a brand new IP for Activision.

For a long time, Bungie.net has been the place for all things Halo; home to everything from weekly updates to checking out your Halo stats. Now, the site will be undergoing a “metamorphosis” as Bungie prepares for their next project. Also happening on August 2nd is the release of a video documentary called “O Brave New Worlds,” which might give fans some details on their mysterious new project.

From now on, the Halo franchise will be in the capable hands of 343 Industries, who has already created Halo Waypoint, the hub for all things related to the series. 343 is also developing Halo 4, the beginning of a new trilogy that will again feature Master Chief, as well as Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, which seeks to take the original game and give it a massive graphical overhaul.

Halo fans needn’t be worried. 343 Industries is more than able to meet, and hopefully surpass, the very high bar set by Bungie’s work on the series. And now the team that brought us Halo is free to introduce us to another world that will undoubtedly be as ground-breaking as Halo was a decade ago.
