Dark Souls Inspired Fallout 4’s Survival Mode

Dark Souls Inspired Fallout 4’s Survival Mode

Fallout 4’ s Survival Mode details have been laid out, and they sound brutal. How difficult is it? Well, Bethesda says they looked to Dark Souls for inspiration when it came to inflicting horrors upon people. So yeah, you’re going to have some trouble keeping your Sole Survivor around.

When it comes to Fallout 4’ s Survival Mode, Bethesda says it wants to focus on making people think more strategically, take more care when managing resources, feel like they’re actually struggling to survive, and really slow down and explore the Commonwealth. You can’t make manual or quicksaves, and autosaves are almost gone. You have to sleep for at least an hour to save. Fast traveling is out too. You won’t see threats on the compass, which will hurt since you take and deal more damage than in the standard modes. Exhaustion, hunger, and thirst have to be watched, or your immune system will be compromised. Fatigue can even take away from your Action Points. On the plus side, you get the Adrenaline perk right away, adding bonus damage for every five kills up to 10 ranks.

You’ll also need to take better care of yourself. You want to sleep in a familiar bed, as it’ll help you recover more. You’ll also need to make antibiotics to fight illnesses, as Stimpacks won’t heal them. Radaway also compromises your immune system. Carrying too much weight will hurt you. Companions can’t even be pack mules anymore, as they’ll go back to a settlement if you let them fall in battle without healing them.

Feeling up to the challenge? Survival Mode is available for Windows PC players now. You can opt into the beta on Steam and see if you’re really ready to live in a post-apocalyptic world.
