Dead Or Alive 5 Gets A Virtua(l) Treat

Dead Or Alive 5 Gets A Virtua(l) Treat

None

When the original Dead or Alive came out, it was more or less seen as aping the prime 3D fighter of the day, the progenitor of its specific sub-genre: Virtua Fighter. In the entries since, the two have diverged, with Dead or Alive games offering a more hectic, spectacular alternative to Virtua Fighter’s highly technical, intricate ordeal. In a world that allows for the fighters of rival properties Street Fighter and Tekken to come together, though, there is apparently room for at least a minor cameo in DoA from VF’s single most iconic fighter.

Akira Yuki, poster and cover-boy for the Virtua Fighter series, lends his solid, deliberate fighting abilities to the latest DoA game, Dead or Alive 5, as revealed in a trailer released today. His moves appear to have been “powered up” in the DoA tradition, launching Kasumi about the arena like a rag doll, but they are immediately familiar to anyone who’s put hours into Virtua Fighter. The trailer further plays up the Virtua Fighter connection, making one wonder if Akira is the only element to makes its way over from SEGA’s rival series.
