Demon’s Souls Will Stay Online For Now

Demon’s Souls Will Stay Online For Now

None

No online game can last forever. Running an online server takes time, dedication, manpower, and, of course, money, which studios eventually just don’t have the budget for. Now that Dark Souls is out in Japan, and arriving shortly in North America, its spiritual predecessor (in more ways than one) Demon’s Souls is going to have to kick the bucket.

But Demon’s Souls addicts will still get time to wrap up all their affairs and grind out that one last level. According to Atlus, the lifetime of Demon’s Souls online servers has been extended. Today they announced that they would stay online until at least 2012. No specific shut down date has been announced as of yet, but with Dark Souls coming out next month, it’s really only a matter of time. Still, Atlus thinks keeping the Demon’s Souls servers online is worth it.

PR manager Aram Jabbari said in a recent press release: “While it comes at significant cost to us and although it has been over two years since the game revolutionized the notion of multiplayer and online functionality in an RPG, our commitment to the game and the fans that turned it into an incredible success remains as strong as ever.”
