Dark Souls Hard On Your PC-Loving Heart Too

Dark Souls is a very difficult game. It’s intended to be so, as was its predecessor in spirit, Demon’s Souls. Unlike said prequel, though, Dark Souls was a challenge to people on multiple platforms, coming to the Xbox 360 as well as the PlayStation 3 (for which Demon’s Souls had been an exclusive). Following a fan petition, NAMCO Bandai announced their plans to bring a special edition of the game to the PC as well. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition was thus born.



Unfortunately, it appears it may be “special” in a less-than-positive sense. Whereas Square Enix and developers United Front Games have gone out of their way to ensure the players of the PC version of Sleeping Dogs get an optimal and customizable experience , NAMCO Bandai and developers From Software have decided that Dark Souls on the PC will be locked at 30 FPS and a 1024×720 render resolution. The output can be at a greater resolution, but the game will not actually render the world above that.

This, on top of Games for Windows Live integration, borders on a slap to the face of the PC gaming community that was so excited about the possibility of a PC version of Dark Souls that they put together one of the Internet’s few successful petitions.
