Deus Ex Hackers Hit With Lawsuit

Deus Ex Hackers Hit With Lawsuit

None

Games are leaking all over the place these days. Recently, Gears of War 3 hit the internet months before its planned release. Before that, however, Deus Ex: Human Revolution managed to worm its way onto torrent sites in early May. How the heck did that happen?

Well, Square-Enix may have finally found out. Apparently, fifteen people logged onto the servers where Square was holding its Deus Ex demo. They faked the login info of an Italian gaming magazine and dug around to find the preview build. They then copied it and uploaded it to the internet, and the rest is torrent history.

The gaming magazine in question was GMC, and it appears as if they had nothing to do with the intrusion. The attack came from an IP address that was not associated with the magazine or its reviewer, so GMC is in the clear.

Square is currently suing the fifteen culprits for copyright infringement and damages in excess of $5,000 dollars. Though they haven’t mentioned the server breach much, they have been searching for the culprits ever since the preview build hit the internet. Classy stuff, Square. Now that’s how you handle hackers.
