Director Calls The Amazing Spider-Man 2 “Operatic”

Many would say that the Amazing Spiderman was a great way of rebooting Sam Raimi’s franchise from early 2002. Now, the new director talks about just how far they intend to expand the scale of the sequel in hopes of surpassing the original.

Marc Webb recently called the film “huge,” and stated they are “…pushing the levels of effects, the level of action and the emotional capacity of this kid. It’s an aggressive step forward….We throw around the term ‘operatic’ because of the spectacle and the theatre involved, which is pretty epic. There are enormous sets and great set-pieces. But really it’s a very intimate song – this relationship between Peter and Gwen is very delicate and beautiful.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will introduce familiar franchise favorites like the Osborn’s as well as continuing the mysterious plot thread found in the first film regarding the disappearance of Peter’s parents. Were they secretly working for S.H.I.E.L.D. or some other government agency? Was it Osborn himself?

Be sure to check out the new spot for the upcoming sequel, which will premiere during the Super Bowl this weekend.
