Director Of El Shaddai Pursues Prequel And/Or Sequel

Back in 2011, a uniquely stylized title by the name of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game was strikingly familiar to, Ico , in its structure: simplistic combat and puzzles, but with a brilliant, artistic style and soundscape. Unfortunately, El Shaddai didn’t see the same reception that similar titles like Journey and Shadow of the Colossus met. This makes the news that the project’s director, Takeyasu Sawaki, has purchased the rights to produce a sequel, prequel, “and all other derivative rights of the existing game.”

Takeyasu’s studio, Crim, currently owns the El Shaddai IP, so the purchase of these rights strongly hints at the continuation of the name. Bolder still, however, is Crim’s recent statement that it would “work with the entertainment industry to develop a potential El Shaddai business moving forward.”

Perhaps the one-button combat formula of the game can be redesigned to incorporate hack-and-slash or even action-RPG elements? Good gameplay combined with the game’s iconic aesthetic would certainly make for an interesting title.
