The next character reveal in the ongoing Injustice 2 marketing campaign is Doctor Fate. Doctor Fate is an obscure character, but one with roots in DC Comics history going as far back as the 1940’s. To compare to Marvel, Doctor Fate is a rough equivalent to Doctor Strange. In Injustice 2 , it seems that he’s more of a technical, ranged character that uses magic and strange abilities, rather than his fists.
John Edwards from NetherRealm describes Doctor Fate as a unique alternative: “We don’t want every character to be just like Batman or Superman. So we try to find characters that have unique powers, unique abilities, things that the rest of the cast doesn’t necessarily have.”
In addition to being more of a ranged, space-controlling character, Doctor Fate can also mess with the interactive objects on stages, making them temporarily unavailable. That messes with one of the more vital parts of Injustice gameplay, potentially making Doctor Fate a serious contender.
