Double Fine is producing one of the games made during its annual Amnesia Fortnight game jam for a retail release. The game is called Hack n Slash and will be coming out in early 2014 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It will be included as part of a Double Fine Humble bundle slated to come out in the future.
The game is an action/puzzle title with a twist. It takes place in a fantasy world which is really just a computer game. Instead of getting weapons and magical items, you get hacking tools which alter the game you are playing. For example, one of the items you get allows you to save the game state. There is also plenty of wall hacking, file decryption, slowing time by causing lag, and more. It’s kind of a commentary on game hacking culture as well as fantasy RPG tropes. Even basic combat utilizes hacking. You jack into enemies and choose to change their parameters, such as move speed and health in order to kill or avoid them.
You can find videos of the original game jam production on youtube, but the final version will have much better production values.
