EA Had the Trump Effect Videos Pulled

Donald Trump made what was probably the most ill-advised campaign video ever. Fortunately, EA caught it. Why EA? Well, because it ripped off assets from the Mass Effect series for a Trump Effect ad.

In the Trump Effect video, the logo resembled the font used for the Mass Effect series and audio clips from Mass Effect 2 were used in the background. To be specific, Trump used Martin Sheen’s Illusive Man lines that said things like, “We’re at war.” and “[Trump] …might be all that stands between humanity and the greatest threat of our brief existence.” Well, since it was taken directly from the game, Sheen of course didn’t actually say Trump’s name.

EA immediately caught it and had Trump Effect pulled from both YouTube and Twitter. It used copyright claims to have them removed, since the use of the assets were unauthorized. EA told GameSpot , “The video was an unauthorized use of our IP. We do not support our assets being used in political campaigns.”

Good on EA for getting Trump Effect pulled so quickly. There’s nothing worse than seeing one of your favorite games used as propaganda.
